Vladimir Ossipoff (1907-1998) was a renowned American architect, widely regarded as the "master of Hawaiian modern architecture." Born in Russia, Ossipoff moved to the United States with his family as a child and grew up in Berkeley, California. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a degree in architecture in 1930.

After working for a few years in San Francisco, Ossipoff moved to Honolulu in 1931, where he started his own architectural firm. Over the next several decades, he designed a wide range of buildings, from private residences and commercial buildings to schools and public buildings.

Ossipoff's approach to architecture was heavily influenced by the Hawaiian landscape and climate. He believed that buildings should be designed to take advantage of natural light and ventilation, and should blend seamlessly with the surrounding environment. His designs often featured simple, clean lines and an emphasis on functionality.

One of Ossipoff's most famous projects was the IBM Building in Honolulu, which was completed in 1962. The building, which is now known as the Pacific Guardian Center, was one of the first modern skyscrapers in Hawaii and is considered a landmark of Hawaiian modern architecture.

Throughout his career, Ossipoff received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the field of architecture. He was a fellow of the American Institute of Architects and served as president of the Hawaii Society of Architects. In 1990, he was awarded the National Medal of Arts by President George H.W. Bush, in recognition of his lifelong dedication to the arts and his contributions to the field of architecture.

Today, Ossipoff's legacy lives on in the many buildings he designed throughout Hawaii, as well as in the numerous architects and designers he mentored over the course of his career. He is remembered as a visionary architect who helped to shape the landscape of Hawaii, and as a master of modern architecture whose designs continue to inspire and influence architects around the world.
