Living at Luana Waikiki

Luana Waikiki opened in 1971 as the Waikiki Terrace Hotel and was converted to condominium-hotel units in 2003-2004, with more than $11 million in renovations and an initial operating agreement with Outrigger. Today it has about 223 to 230 units, mostly studios of roughly 300 to 475 square feet plus one-bedroom suites near 590 to 680 square feet; only the one-bedrooms have full kitchens. Owners can place units in the on-site hotel rental program, use an outside manager, or use the unit themselves.

The building is on Kalakaua Avenue next to the 66-acre Fort DeRussy Park, a short walk to Fort DeRussy Beach and the shops and restaurants of central Waikiki.

Rentals: Hawaii Living's Waikiki condotel guide lists it in the hotel and resort group (zoned Resort Mixed Use) and says those buildings do not need a city STR registration. Locationshawaii marks it as legal vacation rental with restrictions. Rental program participation is optional per a Hawaii Living listing.
